Dash Berlin is an electronic music duo from The Hague, Netherlands. The group was formed in 2006, as a trio, by Jeffrey Sutorius, Sebastiaan Molijn, and Eelke Kalberg. However, in 2018 June Sutorius parted ways with the group citing career neglect and mismanagement issues as the reasons for his departure.
Front-man, Sutorius started out as a drummer before jumping into electronic music. Molijn and Kalberg had been working in the dance music genre as part of the Alice Deejay project and achieved success with the single Better off Alone. They also produced music for Vengaboys and Candee Jay in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Not long after forming Dash Berlin in 2006, Sutorious, Molijn, and Kalberg broke through and received recognition from fellow DJs, producers and dance music fans.
They released the single Till the Sky Falls Down in 2007. The song was featured on Armin van Buuren’s Universal Religion mix album which helped the song top trance various trance charts in multiple countries. They were subsequently signed to Armin’s Armada Music label.
The group was nominated for four awards at the 2009 International Dance Music Awards and won one of them for the track, Waiting, in the Best High Energy Track category. The song was also voted the second best trance song of the year on A State of Trance that same year.
Also in 2009 Dash Berlin was given a label called Aropa Records. The first release on the record label was a track called Man on the Run. It was a collaborative effort between Dash Berlin, Mitiska, Cerf and Jaren. The single was a success and reached the top of various dance music charts on the international scene.
Recognition continued to pour in for the group. They placed on the number 8 spot in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs poll in 2011. As of mid-2018, the group has released four studio albums and a multitude of singles.
Sutorius’ departure from the group in June 2018 was not amicable. Attempts to reconcile through lawyers were unsuccessful.
The bulk of Dash Berlin’s production work is done in Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro and Apple Mac Pro. His live sets are edited and mixed in Ableton Live. He also uses the Mixed In Key Harmonic DJ software for preparing some of his live work.
He uses a lot of hardware units to produce such as a Roland SH-101 synthesizer, Roland JP-8000 synthesizer, and Access Virus TI.
The hardware side of his live set runs on a Pioneer DJM-2000 mixer, Pioneer CDJ-2000 and Pioneer DJM-900 mixer.
A pair of Bose QuietComfort 15, Pioneer HDJ-2000 and V-Moda Crossfade M-100 headphones are used to monitor audio in the studio and during noisy live sets where noise-cancellation is a requirement.
Some of the software instruments in his collection are KV331 Audio SynthMaster, D16 Group LuSH-101, u-he Diva and Reveal Sound Spire.
