KSHMR (pronounced Kashmir) is a DJ and record producer from California, USA. He was given the names Niles Hollowell-Dhar at birth. His parents moved from India to the USA. He works primarily on electro house, big room house, and psytrance.KSHMR started out as part of a hip-hop music production duo called The Cataracs with David Singer-Vine. He helped produce various hit singles, including Selena Gomez’ track Stars Dance.
In 2014, after Singer-Vince left the duo, Hollowell-Dhar started releasing electronic music under his KSHMR moniker. In 2015, KSHMR hit the number 23 position on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs of the year list. He went on to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
He released his first EP, The Lion across the Field on May 13, 2016. That same year he performed on the main stage at the Tomorrowland music festival. Later that year he was given the Best Live Act award by DJ Mag and rose from the 23rd position to the 12th on the Top 100 DJs list.
In 2017 established his label Dharma Worldwide and released the first single on it, titled Festival Lights. Later that year he went on to perform at various festivals, and he also released more content via the label. His third EP, titled Materia was released in August 2017 via Dharma Worldwide and Spinnin’ records.
KSHMR has collaborated with various artists including Firebeatz, Tiesto, Will Sparks, Hardwell, Timmy Trumpet, Headhunterz, Bassjackers, and R3hab.
One of his most successful singles, Secrets was composed in conjunction with Tiesto and featured a vocal performance by Vassy. The single charted in Australia and several European countries including Belgium, France, Sweden Switzerland, France and the Netherlands.
He has also remixed songs by other electronic music acts such as Martin Garrix, Avicii, Kiiara, Nero, and NERVO.
KSHMR uses Ableton Live for most of his electronic music work. While a member of The Cataracs he used Propellerhead Reason for composing music. The audio interfaces he uses are an Apogee Duet 2 and Universal Audio Apollo Twin.
He has an insane amount of software instruments. A copy of Sylenth1, Kontakt 5, Reveal Sound Spire, ProjectSAM Symphobia, Ethno World 6 and Absynth 5 are some of these software tools.
Various Waves effects plugins, ValhallaRoom reverb, iZotope Nectar 2, FabFilter plugins, and various Universal Audio effects processors such as the Galaxy tape delay and Manley Voxbox are some of the tools he uses to sculpt his sounds.
KRK VXT8 and Adam A77X studio monitors are part of his monitoring setup.
KSHMR has been known to use a Pioneer CDJ-2000 Nexus during some of his live sets, such as the 2016 Tomorrowland festival held in Belgium.
Other equipment he’s been seen using includes a Roland TR-808 Rhythm composer, API 550A Discrete 3 band EQ and a Pulteq program equalizer EQP-1A.
