Lucas Cornelis van Scheppingen aka Laidback Luke is a half Filipino half Dutch musician who grew up in the Netherlands, where he was exposed to dance music and developed a passion for it. True to his name, not too much is known about Luke. However, he has collaborated with various artists including David Guetta, Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Junior Sanchez and Example.
He has released 2 studio albums to date, a compilation album, a mix album, an EP and a sizeable number of original singles as well as remixes. His most successful songs include Natural Disaster on which he collaborated with Example as well as Show Me Love which is a collaboration track with Steve Angello and Robin S.
Luke received a Dance Music Award nomination in the best European DJ category. He’s also part of Nouveau Yorican – a duo with his ex-wife Gina Turner. Luke primarily produces electro house, progressive house, and techno.
In October 2008 Laidback Luke released a free mix album which accompanied copies of that month’s issue of Mixmag. He made an appearance in the 2026 Steve Aoki movie documentary I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead.
Luke is known to use Ableton Live as well as FL Studio for his production. He has a pair of Genelec 8030B studio monitors for playback and mixing purposes. He has several keyboards including an Alesis QX49 MIDI controller, M-Audio Keystation Mini 32, Korg nanoKEY2 keyboard controller as well as an E-Mu Xboard 49 MIDI controller. He also has an Apogee ONE audio interface.
On the software side he uses quite a number of VST plugins such as Sylenth1, Kjaerhus Audio Classic suite, Native Massive, Korg M1 synthesizer, u-he ZebraCM, 4Front TruePianos, Tone2 Saurus, Native Instruments FM8, Reaktor, Native Instruments Absynth 5 and various other plugins.
