Steve Angello is one-third of the house music super-group Swedish House Mafia. He was raised in Sweden where he began DJ-ing at the age of 12. He started out mixing break-beats and hip-hop tracks before moving on to electronic music in his late teens.By 2001 he had released some tracks under the Who’s Who alias. He founded Size Records in 2003 through which he has since released some of his work.
In 2006 Angello and Ingrosso collaborated on a track titled Tell Me Why which was released through Data Records, an imprint of Ministry of Sound. In 2008 Swedish House Mafia officially formed and went on to achieve global success.
After the group’s breakup in 2013 Angello continued to pursue a solo career while his former group mates went on to perform as a duo under the Axwell & Ingrosso name.
Angello’s first official studio album Wild Youth was released in 2016 and charted in Belgium, Italy, Spain, the USA and his home country of Sweden.
His follow up studio album Human was debuted at Coachella 2017 and subsequently released in April 2018. Seven tracks out of the twenty-one tracks were released as singles from the album. The project featured considerably fewer guest appearances. Some of the artists who made an appearance on the album are Pusha T, Barns Courtney, Paul Meany and T.D. Jakes.
Artists he collaborated with on different projects include his brother AN21, Eric Prydz, Chris Willis, Laidback Luke, David Guetta and Max Vangeli.
He has also released multiple EPs since 2003, each featuring two to five tracks. He has also released collaborative tracks with Ingrosso under various aliases such as Fireflies, General Moders, Mode Hookers, Outfunk, The Sinners and Buy Now!
He also released a collaborative single with Eric Prydz titled Sunrise under the alias A&P Project.
Steve Angello is married to a Swedish model called Isabel Adrian with whom he has two daughters. As of 2018, a Swedish House Mafia reunion was announced.
Steve likes to use a lot of analog synthesizers and outboard gear when creating his music. His system centers on his MacBook Pro which runs a copy of Logic Pro. He uses a lot of Logic’s stock instruments and effects processors when on the road.
Some of the hardware synths he uses are a Moog Minimoog Voyager, Moog Minitaur, Kurzweil PC3LE8 and Roland Gaia SH-01.
Other keyboards and MIDI controllers he uses are the Akai MPK61, Akai LPK25 and Arturia KeyLab 49. Among his hardware effects processors are the SSL XLogic G series compressor, Neve 8803 dual channel EQ, and the Shadow Hills mastering compressor.
Software instruments he employs in his production include Spectrasonics Trillian, Arturia Jupiter 8V, Rob Papen Predator and IK Multimedia Miroslav Philharmonic.
Steve has mentioned that the Sennheiser HD-25-1 II headphones are among his favorite. He also has a custom-made pair of V-Moda Crossfade M-100 headphones as well as Beats by Dre Pro Detox headphones in his collection.
