Steve Aoki is an American-born electro house musician who founded his own label Dim Mak Records in 1996. Despite being in the music industry for so long his international breakthrough came in the 2010s after amassing a huge fan base through a rigorous touring schedule. In the year 2010, he released I’m in the House which was successful in the UK and ended up being used on an episode of MTV’s Jersey Shore as well as in the movie Piranha.
He released his debut album in 2012 and has since released 4 studio albums, 3 EPs and more than 40 singles with various artists such as LMFAO, Kid Cudi, Linkin Park and 2Chainz. His biggest song to date is Just Hold On which features Louis Tomlinson.
Steve has been nominated for various awards and he has won a Billboard Award, a DJ Award, an MTV Latin America Award. At the 55th Grammy Awards, he received a nomination in the Best Dance/Electronica Album category for his debut album Wonderland, which he lost to Skrillex’s Bangarang.
Steve Aoki uses Ableton Live, Apple Logic Pro, and Avid Pro Tools for most of his production and mixing work. He uses various studio monitors such as the KRK Rokit, the Focal SM9, as well as the Pioneer S-DJ08 speakers. His hardware synthesizers include the Access Virus TI2 Polar and the Clavia Nord Lead 3.
He has a variety of headphones such as his own version of the Sol Republic Steve Aoki Tracks headphones, Pioneer HDJ-2000 and Sony MDR-V7000 DJ headphones. A Native Instruments Maschine and Apogee Duet FireWire audio interface are also part of his rig.
His software plugins include Massive, Native Instruments Razor, Sylenth1 Rob Papen Predator, and reFX Nexus to name a few.
